Eureka Springs - Ozark Cabins Loyal reader Linda reports: "We just returned from Eureka Springs, Arkansas. If you like the outdoors it is an absolutely beautiful place to vacation. The city has a lot of history and is absolutely beautiful. There are 51 gay owned businesses there...pretty impressive for such a small place. There is a transit system that will take you to the notable locations in town and you can get off at any point in the route. They also have guided open-air tram tours that will give you the history of the town. Quite the artist haven apparently. There is a great little business district with lots of shopping too. Outside the city there are numerous "lodges" and cabins nestled in the ozarks. We stayed at a place called Ozark Cabins. They have full RV hookups, tent camping, and cabins for very reasonable rates and they are gay friendly."

Eureka Springs - Pond Mountain Lodge Eureka Springs Arkansas is a very gay friendly resort town. The City of Eureka Springs has established one of the first domestic partnership registries in the nation. The several Pride weekends throughout the year which are shown on the calendar on this following link. The Pond Mountain Lodge is owned by Judy, and Kim and Sandy help her run the place. All three are family and are great hostess. It is a wonderful place to stay. They have a main house with several rooms and then there are three cabins located on the property which are very nice and secluded. Here is a little blurb off of their website: "Eureka Springs is an all-inclusive and accepting community centered around the arts, nature, and multi-cultural/generational experiences. At Pond Mountain Lodge, we are proud to offer union and commitment ceremonies to everyone in love."

Eureka Springs - Rock Cottage Garden Loyal reader Suzan reports: There is a wonderful little town in the Mountains of Arkansas that is known for it's B&Bs. The population is predominately gay (go figure for Arkansas) in Eureka Springs. It is a very artsy town that is accepting of same sex couples walking hand-in-hand and/or kissing on the street corners. I highly recommend The Rock Cottage Garden as a place to stay. Check it out if you have time. Also check out the Diversity Weekends which are Pride events held three times each year.

New Orleans - Dauphine House Loyal reader Sheila says "Small B&B (3 rooms) outside of the French Quarter in the Marginy District which includes plenty of clubs and restaurants on Frenchmen Street. Great hostess, Karen, who was there to answer any questions we had. Breakfast was "continental" meaning fresh muffins and fruit brought in a basket to us each morning. Rooms are sort of small, but the bathroom was huge with an armoire to store our items. A microwave, fridge, silverware, coffee are teas are stocked in each room. Walking distance to the French Quarter and 1 block from the French Quarter Shuttle from which you can catch the Trolleys. Prices vary depending on the time of year with rates being as low as $65/night in the hot summer. Here's the website.

Brookshire - Eve's Garden Loyal reader Marian reports: "Eve’s Garden is just far enough outside Houston to really feel like you’ve gotten away from the rat race but yet close enough to drive there in an hour. It’s just lovely with its garden area and beautifully maintained grounds. You can swing in the outdoor swing under the trees or relax in their large comfortable courtyard and they even have a small wedding chapel for those wanting a commitment ceremony. I have a lesbian friend having her ceremony there in the fall this year. They are very flexible and will work with you on your event or leave you alone. The inside is beautifully decorated and very comfortable."

Conroe - Abercrombie Retreats Among the pines and hardwoods of the Sam Houston State forest, Abercrombie Retreats offers an escape from the pace of modern day life. Deer grazing, birds singing and breezes playing music among the trees are a but few of the natural amenities that await you.
Though it is less than ten minutes from world class shopping, dining, and entertainment, and less than 20 minutes from the Renaissance Festival, Abercrombie Retreats feels a million miles away. Surrounded by twenty wooded acres, the four properties are distinctly different; yet share the same peacefulness that replenishes body, mind, and spirit.
The Tin Roof Hideout‹the private bed and breakfast--is a western fantasy wonderland, with oversized aspen furnishings, painted murals, artisan ironwork, original art by J.H. Guthrie and more. The Country Manor next door is already a popular venue for both private parties and corporate functions.
Do you have horses? Bring them and spend the day riding in the forest, then tuck them into nice roomy stables for the night.
Marilyn Abercrombie, a 30-year resident in the area, has a vision for the retreat and oversees the implementation of the continuously developing property. On every visit, you will discover surprises, improvements and, oftentimes, whimsical fantasies of her personality.
Welcome to the place for relaxation, reflection and introspection. For reservations any time of the year, call (713) 857-4430 or email Marilyn.

San Antonio - The Painted Lady Inn Loyal reader Sheila says "Small Inn/B&B which the majority of the rooms being named after a GLBT person (Oscar Wilde, Andy Warhol, Turman Capote) First rate place owned by a wonderful gay couple. The breakfast are heavenly and they will serve you in your room. Most rooms have a wetbar complete with sink, microwave, and fridge. With the wonderful breakfast and a place to warm up leftovers or a meal from HEB/Central Market (there's one about 10 blocks away) we really saved $$ by only having to eat out once a day. Oscar Wilde suite with it's jacuzzi tub was our favorite, but we also have enjoyed the DeVinci room which has a wonderful sunroom. Also, the Inn is right on a bus line and just a few blocks away from the Trolley. If you're up to it you can walk to a quiet area of the Riverwalk, although I wouldn't recommend it at night since it is located in a mostly business area which closes up after 5 pm. The parking is a little werid as it's in a shell parking lot behind the building and you have to take a route between 2 buildings to get to it, but it's well worth it!! Prices are $119 and up depending on room and length of stay." Here's their website.

San Antonio - A Yellow Rose Loyal reader Sheila (a busy traveler, apparently!) has this report: "B&B in the King William District; gay friendly. Has 4 rooms plus a 1 bedroom garage Apartment. We stayed in the apartment at the back of the property (over the garage but you never heard a car). It had everything we needed - full size frig, stove, air/heat, condiments. Can't comment on the breakfast since we choose not to have which along with being able to cook it really saved us $$. It's about 2 blocks from the Trolley route as well as plenty of restaurants (Mat Hatters, Rosarios). Neighborhood was very quiet. Prices start at round $89 and go up to $200 depending on room, etc.)" Here's the website.

Niagara Falls - Chestnut Inn Loyal reader Sheila says "Small B&B with 5 rooms; "self serve" in that the owners are not there 24/7 to chat with you. They do however leave plenty of info on attractions and the woman who serves breakfast is a wonderful help in suggesting places for dinner, etc. Great breakfast!!! Stuffed French toast is their speciality. It's a somewhat older place in that it doesn't have wifi or DVD player. But it each room does have a fireplace, deck, and tv with cable. You can easily walk to the Falls but if you don't want to walk, the People Mover (Niagara Falls shuttle to major attractions) stops right in front. Pricewise it's cheaper than most places and unlike a lot of B&Bs in NF the rates don't change with the seasons. Prices start at $100/night." Here's the website.
