Backgammon: Women's Backgammon Club If you love backgammon, and well, who doesn't, this is the group for you. (Note: apparently my clip art program does not like backgammon, since they had no picture, but perhaps I digress....) Although they have only been meeting for a couple of weeks, they alreaady have eight regulars. The gals are aspiring to grow their group so that they can have tournaments and do fund-raising events. Basketball: Houston Hoops I can't tell from their msn group if this is a co-ed group, but maybe they could be if women showed interest! They are apparently just getting organized so there isn't a lot of info, but they meet for shoot arounds and open play at Grady Middle School off of San Felipe and Sage in the Galleria area on weekends. Bicycling: Different Spokes Houston Different Spokes is Houston's Gay and Lesbian cycling club, open to all in the GLBT and GLBT-friendly community with an interest in cycling. Riders of all skill levels are welcome. They schedule many bike rides, social events, and encourage club participation in organized rides throughout the year. They are a fun and diverse group of cyclists with skill levels from beginner to advanced. Join them for a ride! Don't worry - no one gets left behind. Billiards: Three different leagues The Greater Houston Pocket Billiards League, Inc., known as the GHPBL, is an 8-ball league open to both men and women, consisting of 3 player teams and substitutes. Play is at sponsoring establishments in the Montrose area on Wednesday evenings, beginning at 8:00 pm. There are 2 seasons annually, Summer and Winter, each followed by an end of the season tournament and an awards banquet. There are also various tournaments throughout each season and various other events. Check out their website.
The Houston Metropolitan Billiard League, known as the HMBL, is an eight-ball billiard league consisting of 3-man teams. Play takes place on Tuesday evenings at sponsoring establishments in the Greater Montrose area of Houston. There is a Fall and Spring season with additional tournaments held throughout the playing seasons, and each season culminates with an awards banquet. The HMBL follows the rules and regulations of the Billiard Congress of America. Here is their website.

Bowling: Fall Women's Bowling League Starts Monday Sept 17th, 6:30 pm at Dynamic Lanes Haul out your funny shoes, girls - it's time for bowling!!!!!! And this year I promise not to make any bad bowling puns, like saying that you will have a ball, or that bowling is right up your alley. Nope, those bad pun days are over!
The league starts this Monday, and they will be accepting players and teams through the end of September. Dynamic Lanes is located at 6121 Tarnef, (713) 772-1063. Camping: Houston Outdoor Group (HOG) The Houston Outdoor Group (HOG) is a social group for gay men, lesbians and gay friendly persons who enjoy the outdoors. Activities are organized by HOG members, individually or by ad hoc groups, and are reported in the monthly newsletter. Events may be typical sports activities (camping, hiking, etc.) but can also include any social activity, whether indoors or out. There are no formal membership requirements except for the annual fee of $20 her household to cover the cost of the newsletter. Hockey: Women’s Hockey League meets weekly Tuesday evenings at Space City Ice Station Hockey league brings together women and teens at various skill levels who all share a love of hockey.
Women of all ages and skill levels (even a couple of mother and daughter duos) are meeting at the Space City Ice Arena on Tuesday evenings with a common love of hockey … and the league is steadily growing! Motorcycling: Montose Motorcycle Riding Club Montrose Motorcycle Riding Club (MMRC) is dedicated to serving GLBT and gay-friendly motorcyclists in and around the Houston area. MMRC is in it's second year and has a great membership. MMRC promotes responsible and safe riding while emphasizing having fun and building friendships. The club welcomes people from all walks of life who ride any brand and style of motorcycle. They encourage impromptu rides, planned rides, and showing their support at community events.

Rugby: Houston Women's Rugby Team The Houston Women's Rugby Team is a mix of all walks of life, from the old to the young, and from the experienced to the rookies. Their team focus in the upcoming 2006 season is to build our numbers, and work towards becoming a strong and dominant force in the Texas Women's Rugby Union. This will be accomplished by increased recruitment and by the continued dedication of our veteran players and Coach. In addition to the process of becoming better rugby players, the Houston Women's Rugby Team provides a friendly and social atmosphere in which all can relax - rugby style!! Tennis: Houston Tennis Club Founded in 1980, The Houston Tennis Club (HTC) is a non-profit organization formed to create a framework for promoting athletic competition in the sport of tennis among its members. HTC does not discriminate or deny membership on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion or creed. HTC has a roster of players ranging from novice to advanced tournament players. It is also home to the annual HOUTEX tennis tournament and charity fundraiser. The HOUTEX tournament is one of the oldest and most prestigious gay tennis tournaments in the United States and is sanctioned by the Gay and Lesbian Tennis Association (GLTA), a member organization of the United States Tennis Association (USTA).
