Pride Houston
Pride Houston is the group that produces the annual Pride Parade.  
Although the Parade occurs in June, this organization works year
round, and they are looking for volunteers in a broad variety of
categories, including parade support, marketing, public relations,

Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG)
PFLAG's mission is to support, educate and advocate:
  • Support:  PFLAG works to keep families together in loving
    relationships,  helping them understand and affirm their gay,
    lesbian, bisexual, or transgender family members.  
  • Education: PFLAG seeks to enlighten an  ill-informed public
    about sexual orientation and gender identity, dispelling  myths
    and misinformation through work with educators, community and
    religious  groups, the media and the general public.
  • Advocacy: PFLAG works to  end discrimination and to secure
    equal rights.

AssistHers
AssistHers is a non-profit organization that provides non-medical, in-
home care and support to lesbians who have chronic or disabling
illnesses. The group uses a care team approach; it also provides clients
some supplemental food and taxi voucher support. Currently, more
than 20 teams of volunteers assist 25 Houston-area clients and a
waiting list exists. Since 1996, the group has assisted 80 clients and
trained more than 600 volunteers.  For more information about

Lesbian Health Initiative (LHI)
There is an ever increasing need for health services for those
without health insurance in the Houston Metropolitan area.  LHI is an
all volunteer organization focused on bringing much needed health
services at no cost to these LGBT women. These services include
free mammograms and some follow-up diagnostic care if needed, free
individual blood tests, oral cancer screening, and more, along with a
diverse array of health education materials.  LHI offer these
services at local Health Fairs held on the first Saturday of June and
November respectively.  LHI is present and active at the Houston
Women's Festival, the Pride Parade, the HGLCC's Unity Expo 2006,
and other community events.  LHI also hosts a Celebration of Love
Gala each February featuring a Dinner/Dance with Entertainment by a
noted lesbian entertainer.  LHI publishes and mails a 16-page health
focused newsletter three times a year.

LHI needs volunteers to assist them in making these services and
activities happen.  If you would like to meet and perhaps help them,
please come to a LHI meeting on the first Tuesday of each month,
6:30pm in the library at RMCChurch, corner of W. 11th St. and W. T.C.

OLOC (Old Lesbians Organizing for Change)
OLOC is a national organization, comprised of mostly retired college
professors, doctors, mid-management people, and political activists.
They are a national network of old lesbians over age 60 working to
confront ageism in our communities and our country, using education
and public discourse as our primary tools.  You can find out more about

Shay's House
Their mission is  to guide each client,  help her to develop a high self-
esteem, become economically independent, provide family nourishment
in a safe sheltering place, and hope to offer support, so

The Houston Black Tie Dinner, Inc.
Black Tie Dinner is a Texas not-for-profit organization. The
organization is made up entirely of volunteers and is dedicated to
raising and distributing funds to local charities and organizations and
honor worth individuals for their contributions to the gay and lesbian
community of Houston through their humanitarian or political work.
Since it's inception in 1988 the Dinner has contributed over 1.6 milion

Houston Buyers Club
Houston Buyers Club provides nutritional supplements and nutritional
education to the community at reduced prices (or for free to those
living with chronic illness like HIV, Hep C, Diabetes and some forms

Houston Women's  Festival
The festival is a celebration of music, art, culture and community that

Legacy Community Health Services is a full-service healthcare center
