We’ve put together this list of resources for planning your Will, Powers of Attorney and other important end-of-life documents. It will also provide info about funeral planning.
Carol was inspired to do this campaign after a dear friend of hers died unexpectedly without having his paperwork in order, and the surviving spouse is going through a legal and financial nightmare. Please protect those you love by making a commitment to get your papers in order in the next 30 days.
Disclaimer: We are not attorneys, nor do we make any representations about the quality of this list. This is a list of resources which were recommended by Facebook friends. Some of the local attorneys are willing to provide discounts if you mention this project, so be sure to ask.
First off, here are some of some of the documents you may need to have in place depending upon your marital status:
- A will.
- A statutory power of attorney document.
- A medical power of attorney document.
- A living will.
- A HIPPA authorization form.
- Disposition of remains
- Uniform Donor Form
There are on-line resources which can help you prepare these forms without the assistance of an attorney (provided later in this posting). However, if your estate is complicated, or if you have reason to believe that your family would contest your final wishes, it’s always best to get an attorney’s assistance.
